This is the Tridon Mks, the anti-aircraft system presented at Eurosatory 2024

Every two years, Eurosatory, an international defense and security fair organized by the French Ministry of Defense, is held in Paris. It is one of the most important conventions on the planet and has almost 2,000 exhibitors. It is precisely there where BAE Systems (the British company that builds nuclear submarines) will launch its next generation 40mm anti-aircraft systemTridon Mk2.

Based on the battle-tested 40mm Bofors cannon and over 90 years of experience, this cutting-edge self-propelled system provides safety and security for both military forces and civilian infrastructure. On today’s battlefields, tens of thousands of drones are shot down every month, and this new threat has exposed a dangerous gap in the current air defense capabilities of NATO allies.

“The Tridon Mk2 is the ideal solution for combat operations where soldiers need a proven, reliable and high-precision anti-aircraft system to keep the skies clear and protect troops and infrastructure. The adaptability of the system, which can evolve as threats continue to changeis what makes it one of the most effective anti-aircraft systems on the market today,” said Lena Gillström, president of BAE Systems.

The Tridon Mk2 is a high-precision mobile anti-aircraft system, combined with critical munitions capabilities, including the Bofors 3P programmable munition that forms the backbone of the system, designed to defeat a wide range of air and ground threats. The system has an effective range of up to 12 km, depending on the target, the selected ammunition, the sensor suite and the surrounding terrain. It is a flexible option for any army, as it offers the possibility of mix a wide variety of ammunition in the same firing salvo.

This flexibility of the system allows it to be mounted on multiple platforms and operated entirely from inside the cockpit, facilitating rapid deployment into action and for troops to regroup to avoid enemy countermeasures. Also can be downloaded in strategic locations and controlled remotely from a safe distance. Each system has its own day-night acquisition sensors and fire control system, making it a cost-effective solution for protecting large areas. The Tridon Mk2 will be on display at the BAE Systems stand at Eurosatory from June 17 to 21, 2024.
